Hi! Nice to see you here. I'm Ruth Ivimey-Cook, and live in Cherry Hinton, on the edge of Cambridge, UK. Many of my friends are scattered around the country, which makes my big luxury, an Audi S7, rather useful. I enjoy traveling in general when I can avoid stress - discovering new places and seeing new people. I enjoyed the wild beauty of of the east Suffolk coast when I lived there a while ago, and have been appreciating the tender pleasures of the Cambridgeshire landscape since.
I developed a web-based conference papers database called paperdb some years back which forms the core of the WoTUG Conferences site, and I have gone on to build websites in Drupal and PHP for several companies and customers. On several occasions now I have developed extensible frameworks for importing or exporting data using JSON, XML or similar APIs, which I find quite satisfying. I now offer consulting on Drupal 8 and 9 sites.
In the last few years I have taken up magazine editorship, and am currently the editor of "Great Eastern News", an A4 membership publication for over 1000 members and averaging 48 pages. I enjoy getting the material to gel together and looking good on the page using InDesign CC, with drawings in Illustrator. To mark my first full year doing this, at the end of 2019 I created and distributed a questionnaire for members to let me know how things were going. I'm glad to say the results were very good indeed.
I enjoy listening to music, and enjoy classical pieces by Tchaikovsky and Mahler as well as classical guitar and Jazz. Other musicians I like include Jean-Michelle Jarre, Vangellis, Chris De Burgh, Enya, Everything But The Girl (EBTG). and last but not least there's Runrig (best when you can play it loud!). Recently I've also been listening to much more of Graham Kendrick's wonderful contemporary gospel songs.
